Our Commitment to Child Safety

At Axiom Academy, the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of every child we work with is our highest priority. We support and respect all children, and we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment. We have zero tolerance for abuse, and any concerns are treated seriously and handled according to robust policies and procedures.

For the purposes of this policy, a child is anyone under the age of 18.

How We Keep Children Safe

  • One-on-One, Supervised Learning: Lessons always occur in open, visible spaces at home or on secure online platforms. Tutors are never left alone with a child without parental or guardian oversight.

  • Safe Recruitment Practices: All tutors undergo a face-to-face interview, ID verification, and a verified Working With Children Check (WWCC). We also check references and maintain ongoing records of compliance.

  • Professional Training: Tutors and staff receive comprehensive training on child safety, risk awareness, and appropriate behaviour, with regular refreshers to ensure they understand their responsibilities.

  • Code of Conduct: All tutors and staff must follow Axiom’s Child Safety Code of Conduct, which outlines professional standards and expected behaviours when interacting with children.

Empowering Children

We believe children are active participants in their learning and in decisions that affect them.

We:

  • Encourage children to express their concerns and opinions

  • Promote inclusivity and diversity, including the cultural safety and empowerment of Aboriginal children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with disabilities

  • Support children in understanding their rights and how to seek help if they feel unsafe

Your Role in Child Safety

We rely on parents, guardians, and carers to help us maintain a safe environment:

  • Lessons at home should occur in open, visible spaces where family members can observe.

  • All communication about lessons (scheduling, questions, or feedback) should go through you — tutors will not contact students privately outside of lessons or connect on social media.

  • Tutors will never engage in physical contact, inappropriate discussions, or personal relationships with students.

We encourage parents to check in after lessons to ensure their child feels comfortable and secure. If any concerns arise, please contact us immediately.

Reporting and Accountability

  • All allegations of abuse or breaches of our policies are investigated thoroughly and promptly.

  • We comply with NSW mandatory reporting laws, including failure to disclose and failure to protect requirements.

  • Reports are securely recorded and managed with respect for privacy while prioritising child safety.

  • In an emergency or immediate risk, call 000.

We provide clear avenues for reporting, including:

  • Parent Report Form

  • Tutor Report Form

  • Child Report Form

Please contact us as soon as possible if these are required.

Child Safety Resources

We encourage children and families to learn about safety through age-appropriate resources, such as:

  • The UNDIES Rule – teaching children about safe and unsafe touch

  • Who Are Your Five Heroes? – helping children identify trusted adults

  • Guidance on emotional wellbeing and who to contact if upset or unsafe

Supporting contacts in Australia:

  • 1800RESPECT: 1800 737 732

  • Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre: 1800 015 188

  • Centre Against Sexual Assault: 1800 806 292

Continuous Improvement

Axiom Academy regularly reviews its Child Safety Policy and training, ensuring our practices reflect the latest guidance and feedback from students, parents, and staff. We work to reduce risks proactively, foster a culture of openness, and maintain a safe, professional learning environment for every child.
